Dominic Miller

Born in Argentina to an American father and Irish mother, guitarist Dominic Miller was raised in the U.S. from age 10 and then educated there and in England. Now he lives in France, though he has toured the globe for the past three decades. The guitarist has long been known as Sting’s right-hand man on guitar – and co-writer of the worldwide hit “Shape of My Heart,” among others. He has also worked with the likes of Paul Simon, The Chieftains and Plácido Domingo and his playing has prompted praise from Simon, who has pointed out that Miller “has a beautiful touch, with a fragrance of jazz and English folk.” Silent Light – Miller’s ECM debut from 2017, featuring him solo and with percussion accompaniment – was met with critical acclaim. Stereophile called the album an intimate and extremely appealing statement that touches on many of the places Miller has been, and much of the music he’s played over time. Miller’s second album for ECM, 2019’s Absinthe, saw the guitarist partner up with drummer Manu Katché, bandoneon player Santiago Arias, Mike Lindup on keyboard and Nicolas Fiszman on bass. For his most recent recording, Vagabond, Miller collaborated with pianist Jacob Karlzon, Nicolas Fiszman and drummer Ziv Ravitz. Commenting on the album’s compositions, Spectrum Culture said: “These are not statement pieces. They’re soft and quiet, with moments of occasional intensity, moody, atmospheric.”
