Pianist Daniil Trifonov presents a characteristically imaginative and virtuosic programme from the 2023 Salzburg Festival. He begins with Tchaikovsky's charming Children's Album, a series of brilliantly characterful musical vignettes. Next come to two fantasies: Schumann's great Fantasie in C Major, Op. 17, composed in 1836 and dedicated to Franz Liszt, is one of the key works of musical Romanticism, while Mozart's Fantasie in C minor, K. 475, is among the composer's most unorthodox and – and compelling – works. The programme concludes with one of Scriabin's most concentrated and powerful works, the Piano Sonata No. 5, committed to paper over just six days in December 1907.
