Renaud Capuçon in Fauré's Requiem and Frank Martin's Polyptyque

La Grange au Lac, Évian

105 Min

Streaming live from the Rencontres musicales d'Évian festival, this concert features festival director Renaud Capuçon as both violinist and conductor in a programme built around two unusual sacred works. First, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, completed in 1890, sees the composer eschewing fire and brimstone to concentrate on a message of consolation and and peace, conveyed by chorus, modest orchestra and just two soloists – here soprano Siobhan Stagg and baritone Benjamin Appl – to create one of his most popular works. Nearly a century later, Swiss composer Frank Martin composed Polyptyque, a sacred concerto written for Yehudi Menuhin and inspired by a polyptych portraying the Passion of Christ.
