Bomsori & Cristian Măcelaru in Bruch, Strauss, Wagner & Bonis

Cristian Măcelaru conducts the WDR Sinfonieorchester in a fascinating programme featuring Max Bruch's ever-popular Violin Concerto – with Bomsori as soloist – alongside seductive and powerful music by Strauss, Wagner and Mel Bonis. Two of Strauss's early tone poems bookend the concert, contrasted with Bonis's brief character study of Salomé (published just four years after Strauss's own breakthrough opera on the theme) and the original version of Wagner's Tannhäuser overture. And we stay in the music of German Romanticism with the central Bruch concerto, whose dramatic first movement, moving Adagio and thrilling finale have long made the work a firm favourite among players and audiences alike.
