The 24-year-old Martha Argerich’s appearance at the 1965 Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw marked the beginning of an incomparable career. Her closest competitor was Arthur Moreira Lima from Brazil, and for much of the competition her victory was far from certain. With her final performance of Chopin's First Piano Concerto, though, a legend was born. The film includes excerpts from the dramatic musical duel between Argerich and Moreira Lima, as well from Argerich’s interpretation of Chopin's work in Warsaw 45 years later. We also hear from close friends of Martha Argerich, including the conductor Daniel Barenboim, as well as from Moreira Lima himself.
