According to legend, Cloud Gate is the name of the oldest known dance in China, a ritual dance some 5,000 years old. In 1973, choreographer Lin Hwai-min adopted this classical name for the first modem dance company in Taiwan or China: Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. Since then, the company has caused a sensation both at home and abroad. In this film, Lin Hwai-min discusses about his own artistic background and his remarkable choreographic style – mixing influences from both East and West – while we join the company’s dancers practising the Tai Chi that he sees as an important part of the group’s creative preparation.
