Sir Georg Solti was undoubtedly one of the most important conductors of the 20th century, a huge cultural figure in both Europe and the United States, where he was chief conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for 21 years. This fascinating documentary portrait tells the story of his life and career from the beginnings in Budapest, through appointments in Munich, London, Chicago and elsewhere, to its final stages, where he stood as the last representative of a generation of conductors that included Karajan and Bernstein. With a wealth of interview material with those who worked with and knew Solti – plus extensive archive footage of Solti himself – the result is a remarkable portrait of a unique musician.
