Vienna Boys' Choir presents Mozart's Coronation Mass

250 Years of Mozart

As young as its members are, the institution of the Vienna Boys' Choir is old and venerable, with a history dating back more than half a millennium. Unlike Haydn and Schubert, Mozart from Salzburg was not one of its members, but he did make music with and for the ensemble. Joining in the worldwide celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the Austrian composer in 2006, the Choir, together with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra led by Bertrand de Billy, offer their tribute from Vienna’s St. Stephen's Cathedral. Performed in 1792 for the coronation of Emperor Franz II, the Coronation Mass is fittingly festive, especially when echoing through the halls that held Mozart’s wedding and wake.
