The death of composer Jóhann Jóhannsson at the age of just 48 in early 2018 tore a painful hole in the music world. His legacy lives on, however, through his catalogue of recordings, which encompasses everything from evocative compositions for small ensemble to strikingly original film soundtracks. A career had catapulted the Icelandic musician all the way to Hollywood, where he was nominated twice for an Oscar and awarded a Golden Globe. Here, he performs some of his greatest tracks with the Echo Collective at the Boilerroom of the Funkhaus Berlin, where the innovative combination of string and piano with electronic music and sound recordings make this live recording an unforgettable event, captivating in its trance-like atmosphere.
