Pianist Víkingur Ólafsson is well known for his questing repertoire choices and dramaturgically exciting programmes. This recital filmed in 2021 at Harpa, Reykjavík's imposing waterfront concert hall, features works by Debussy and Rameau – the focus of Ólafsson's third album for Deutsche Grammophon – alongside music by Mussorgsky. The Russian composer's virtuosic Pictures at an Exhibition – incorporating adjustments to the score made by Vladimir Horowitz – crowns the programme, giving Ólafsson the chance to display his full palette of pianistic colours after the subtler shades called for by Debussy and Rameau.
