Hélène Grimaud joins forces with the Camerata Salzburg at Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie for a programme that starts with two minor-key masterpieces by Mozart – works she sees as "symbolically represent[ing] encounters with fate". Grimaud is the soloist in the dramatic Concerto in D Minor, K. 466, before the orchestra, directed from the front desk by concertmaster Giovanni Guzzo, tackle the composer's Symphony No. 40. In the second half, pianist and orchestra perform a minor-key concerto from a later generation: Schumann's Piano Concerto, given here in a performance of revelatory chamber intimacy. As an encore: a work by another composer to have accompanied Grimaud through much of her career, Valentin Silvestrov.
