Filmed at London's St Martin-in-the-Fields in January 2023, this concert sees two of today's most exciting string players join John Eliot Gardiner and his English Baroque Soloists for a programme of dazzling orchestral works by Haydn and Mozart. Isabelle Faust and Antoine Tamestit prove ideal soloists in the central work, Mozart's glorious Sinfonia Concertante of 1779, written while the composer was touring Europe. It is framed by two symphonies: Haydn's Symphony No. 84, composed for Paris and featuring especially colourful wind writing; and Mozart's "Linz" Symphony, a large-scale masterpiece composed – according to the composer's account – within a matter of days in the autumn of 1783.
