Vivaldi in Versailles – Avi Avital & the Venice Baroque Orchestra
Concert
Concertos for Mandolin
Production Date: 27/11/2015

With works from Antonio Vivaldi performed on the mandolin, accompanied by the Venice Baroque Orchestra, surrounded by Veronese paintings and Venetian gifts to Louis XIV, this performance at the Palace of Versailles transports viewers straight to the Baroque era. Bringing the 18th century into the modern day, virtuoso mandolinist Avi Avital performs Vivaldi’s concertos from his album Vivaldi, a tribute to the Italian composer and to Venice, the home of Baroque. Although music history was unkind to the classical mandolin, Avital’s advances as the first ever Grammy Award-nominated troubadour, with his thrilling technique, spellbinding sonority, and discerning delicacy, offer good reason for a long overdue revival.
