Emily D'Angelo stars in the title role of Handel's Ariodante in this new production by Robert Carsen, staged in Paris's lavish Palais Garnier. With a plot drawn from Ariosto's epic Orlando Furioso, the opera, unveiled in London in 1735, features some of Handel's most inspired and subtly dramatic music and recounts the story of Ariodante, his betrothed Ginevra and the treacherous Polinesso, who plots ruthlessly to drive them apart. The production is distinguished by Carsen's characteristic dramatic insight and aesthetic flair. A superb cast on the stage is joined by the English Concert in the pit, conducted by distinguished Handelian Harry Bicket.
