Pierre Boulez conducts Bruckner's 8th Symphony

For his performance with the Wiener Philharmoniker, Pierre Boulez declared that for Bruckner's Eighth Symphony, the orchestra gave him more than he could give the orchestra. Despite the French composer and conductor's modesty, the appeal of this interpretation stems precisely from what he offers the orchestra that originally premiered the work and has regularly performed it ever since: a fresh-eyed approach to and modern perspective of the symphony. This concert takes place on the 100th anniversary of Bruckner's death at the St. Florian Monastery in Linz, Austria, where Bruckner was once a choirboy and organist, and where he was laid to rest.
