Tarmo Peltokoski conducts the Orchestra National du Capitole de Toulouse – of which he takes over as Music Director Designate in September 2024 – in three key works of the Austro-German repertoire marking the transition from the Romantic era to modernism. To open the programme, Renaud Capuçon is the soloist in Schoenberg's 1936 violin concerto, which mixes twelve-tone technique with elements of neo-classicism. To follow, the orchestra and conductor present Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra, a brilliant musical exploration of themes from Nietzsche's book of the same name – and a work whose opening bars are among the best-known in all music. And finally, the rousing Prelude from Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
