Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan: Songs of the Wanderers

They call it “Cloud Gate”: according to legend, the most ancient of China’s ritual dances, with a heritage stretching back at least 5,000 years. This is the tradition that inspired choreographer Lin Hwai-min to create the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan – and to take this ancient art into new and wonderful places. In Songs of the Wanderers a young man rakes a vast expanse of rice: around him, dancers respond to the haunting, impassioned sounds of a very different tradition – Georgian folks songs, sung by the world-renowned Rustavi Choir. East and West unite to create something universal – and eternal.
