With Elīna Garanča, one of the most important singers of the present day, stands in the spotlight of this recital. The Latvian mezzo-soprano, who is at home on the opera stages of the world, performs Schumann's song cycle Frauenliebe und Leben and a selection of Brahms songs in the intimate atmosphere of the Berlin Meistersaal. Together with her longtime lieder accompanist Malcolm Martineau, Garanča demonstrates her exceptional skill in this genre. Her ability to convey every nuance of the music as well as the text, illuminating all emotional states, is remarkable. Schumann's song cycle, composed in 1840, is particularly close to Garanča's heart because it tells the story of life and love from a female perspective.
