The American jazz pianist McCoy Tyner will always be best remembered for his genre-defining collaboration with John Coltrane, but in his extraordinary seven decade solo career he left a legacy that was entirely his own. This recital, recorded live in 1983 as part of the Munich Klaviersommer, finds him at the peak of his fame, as well as his imaginative powers – a sequence of big, generous and exuberantly inventive solo improvisations, played with all his customary clarity, poetry and verve.
