Homage to Mozart – Víkingur Ólafsson & Christoph Eschenbach

Bringing his artistic residency at the Konzerthaus in Berlin to an end, Víkingur Ólafsson pays homage to Mozart together with Christoph Eschenbach, who leads the Konzerthausorchester through the Austrian composer’s Piano Concerto in A Major. Written at the same time as The Marriage of Figaro, when Mozart was in demand as a composer of vocal music, the concerto is one of his most beloved. It’s chamber-like atmosphere and highly contrasting moods are heightened by the intimate encore that sees Eschenbach join the Icelandic pianist at the piano for a four-handed piano sonata, as well as solo performances of works from Ólafsson’s third album Debussy Rameau.
