Concours Géza Anda

Festival

The Concours Géza Anda was created in 1979 by Hortense Anda-Bührle (1926-2014) in memory of her husband, the Hungarian-Swiss pianist Géza Anda (1921-1976). Since then the Géza Anda-Foundation has held an international piano competition in Zurich and Winterthur every three years. The Musikkollegium Winterthur and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich are top-class partners for the semifinals and the final concert. The repertoire reflects the musical legacy of Géza Anda and specified for each competition. The Concours Géza Anda is a unique, extraordinary institution among the countless competitions that exist on the international scene today – and not just because of its distinguished jury, which comprises outstanding members of the music world. The Concours Géza Anda goes beyond organising its prestigious final concert and awarding significant monetary prizes. The Géza Anda Foundation is committed to mentoring its winners for three years and also to providing them with concert engagements. With conductors Mikhail Pletnev for the Mozart round in Winterthur and Paavo Järvi at the Zurich Tonhalle for the final, the Concours Géza Anda has secured two outstanding musical personalities for this year’s edition of the competition.
