Tenor Benjamin Bernheim brings one of his signature roles to the Salzburg Festival with this new production of Offenbach’s final opera, Les Contes d’Hoffmann. Bernheim embodies the writer Hoffmann on his search for his ideal love as the opera takes us through a series of fantastical episodes: from Paris, to Munich and Venice (featuring the famous Barcarolle). He is accompanied by his Muse (Kate Lindsey) and thwarted by a series of villains (Christian Van Horn), while soprano Kathryn Lewek embodies each of the objects of his desire. Mariame Clément, renowned for stagings marrying style and imagination, directs, while Offenbach specialist Marc Minkowski promises to secure sparkling playing from the Wiener Philharmoniker.
