Mischa Maisky – Beyond Words

As the only musician in the world to have studied with both Mstislav Rostropovich and Gregor Piatigorsky, Mischa Maisky is himself one of the greatest cellists of our time. This intimate portrayal explores the life and performances of the Soviet-born Israeli cellist and presents the recording of his concert with pianist Pavel Gililov during the Richard-Strauss-Tage in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Between performances of works by Strauss and Brahms, Maisky reveals anecdotes and relives memories of his childhood, his education, his relationship to the cello, his experiences in the former Soviet Union and his decade-spanning international career.
