Who was Alexander Scriabin? A virtuoso pianist, whose music seemed to take wing? A visionary and mystic, uttering dazzling prophecies in a world on the brink? Or simply a composer of genius, whose imagination – and sense of colour – embraced the wildest and most sensuous frontiers of late Romantic art? In this biographical documentary pianists Vladimir Ashkenazy and Vladimir Horowitz, conductor Mikhail Pletnev and the composer's own daughter Marina all attempt to answer that question – a journey illuminated by archive material, specially shot footage and a rare historic recording of Scriabin playing his own music in 1908.
