Finnish-Ukranian conductor Dalia Stasevska and the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal present a fascinating programme culminating in the passion and virtuoso fireworks of Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 – featuring Canadian-Chinese pianist Bruce Liu. Here he turns his hand to one of the two concertos Chopin wrote in his late teens as vehicles to launch his own career as a virtuoso. The programme opens with Sofia Gubaidulina's The Light of the End and has as its centrepiece Sibelius's remarkable Symophony No. 6, completed in 1923: a work in which the composer presents his rarified and refined late style in four movements crafted with patience and immense skill.
