From the Isarphilharmonie in Munich, Zubin Mehta conducts an all-Brahms concert with the Munich Philharmonic and two world-class soloists: Lisa Batiashvili and Gautier Capuçon. In the first half comes the composer's double concerto, a vibrantly melodic and impassioned work completed in 1887 and written as a gesture of reconciliation towards his old musical friend, violinist Joseph Joachim – it was first performed by Joachim and Robert Hausmann, the cellist of the Joachim Quartet. Completing the programme: the Third Symphony, composed four years earlier. Its special beauty was greatly admired by Antonín Dvořák and it is the most personal of the composer's four symphonies – a perfect partner for the equally personal double concerto.
