No city embodies the spirit of Central Europe more vibrantly than Prague, and no venue in Prague is more alive with history than the baroque Estates Theatre – the house for which Mozart wrote Don Giovanni. It makes an exquisite setting for the Berliner Philharmoniker's 2006 Europakonzert – an all-Mozart performance conducted by Daniel Barenboim. The "Haffner" and "Linz" symphonies are the twin cornerstones of the programme, but like Mozart himself, Barenboim also takes to the keyboard as soloist-director in the noble Piano Concerto No.22. And the orchestra's then-principal horn Radek Baborák steps forward as soloist in the First Horn Concerto: music-making of unbridled joy, from the very heart of Europe.
