Conductor Jakub Hrůša and pianist Lukáš Vondráček are the guests for the Czech Philharmonic’s 2022 Velvet Revolution Concert. This concert opens with one of Rachmaninoff’s best-loved works, his sweepingly romantic and Piano Concerto No. 2, with Vondráček a virtuoso soloist. Leoš Janáček’s early folk music-inspired Suite for Orchestra from 1891 follows, while the programme concludes with Witold Lutosławski’s Concerto for Orchestra: a thrilling orchestral showpiece dating from the middle of the century which marked the climax of its composer’s engagement with the folk music traditions of his native Poland.
