Sokolov plays Purcell & Mozart

The great Grigory Sokolov’s 2023 touring programme is captured here in performances filmed at two concerts in Spain: at the Kursaal Auditiorium in Donostia, San Sebastián and at the Palacio de Festivales in Santander. The programme takes the pianist into rarely heard repertoire by English Baroque master Henry Purcell. For the second half he turns to more familiar repertoire with Mozart’s large-scale, lyrical Sonata K. 333 and the remarkable Adagio in B minor. Then, as is now tradition, come the encores, here encompassing music by Rameau, Chopin and Bach.
