Evgeny Kissin first appeared at the Verbier Festival in 1994 and has been a regular guest at the Swiss festival ever since. In this recital, the Russian pianist focuses on Beethoven's works for solo piano, some of the first masterpieces ever written for the instrument. He brings his decades-long experience on the concert platform to bear on three of the composer's best-known sonatas – the "Pathétique", "The Tempest" and the "Waldstein" – a selection of his bagatelles, the virtuosic "Eroica" Variations and the Variations on the theme that was later to become the March from "The Ruins of Athens" – something of a party piece for the pianist over the years.
