More than 45 years after composing his first, film music legend John Williams presents his Second Violin Concerto. Written for his good friend superstar violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, the concerto was composed as part of a collaborative process between the two and highlights Mutter's affinity for jazz. Ambitious in scope, this important new addition to the violin repertoire was premiered in this concert at the Tanglewood Festival, with Mutter as soloist and Williams conducting the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Completing the programme are works by American composer-violinist Jessie Montgomery, Aaron Copland, and the 1919 Suite from Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird, conducted by the orchestra's music director Andris Nelsons.
