When Scriabin composed Prometheus, his imagination was already bursting the bounds of mere sound – he imagined an artwork in which music and colour fused to create a new and transcendent spiritual experience. An impossible dream? Maybe, but with the powerhouse team of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and its chief conductor Fabio Luisi, nothing is off limits, and this supercharged performance from 2023 floods Copenhagen’s stunning DR Koncerthuset bursts with colours almost as vivid as the playing. Luisi and his orchestra frame Scriabin’s vision with defining masterpieces from the same late-romantic tradition: Wagner and Richard Strauss complete a concert to ravish eyes as well as ears.
