Hogwood conducts C.P.E. Bach: Symphonies & Concertos

Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach was oldest surviving son of Johann Sebastian – and in the eyes of his 18th century contemporaries, he might even have been a greater composer. For the eminent English conductor and historian Christopher Hogwood, CPE Bach's music did not deserve its modern neglect, and this exuberant concert with the Bach Collegium München finds him celebrating Emanuel Bach's genius both as symphonist, and composer of gloriously expressive concertos. In a specially recorded pre-concert interview, Hogwood explains the historical context and makes an eloquent, insightful modern case for a composer whose music was admired by both Haydn and Mozart.
