Karl Richter and the Münchener Bach-Chor and Münchener Bach-Orchester perform Bach's mighty B Minor Mass – one of the composer's crowning achievements, in which a lifetime of unparalleled creativity comes together in one of the grandest musical monuments to faith. And in Richter's hands – with soloists including Gundula Janowitz and Hermann Prey – the work's monumentality comes across in full. This 1969 performance, filmed in the atmospheric Stiftskirche Marienmünster in Dießen am Ammersee, some 30 km south west of Munich, has lost of its power to move.
