Album insights
Anoushka Shankar's seventh album, "Traces of You," is a significant milestone on her musical journey. Collaborating with British-Indian producer Nitin Sawhney in London, known for blending Eastern elements with electronic sounds, she aimed to seamlessly merge various cultural experiences. London, her birthplace and residence, provided the perfect setting for this fusion of Western and Eastern musical landscapes. However, "Traces of You" delves beyond musical solutions, inspired by the universal concept that everything leaves an indelible mark or a subtle "trace" on all it touches. Drawing from personal relationships and her multicultural lifestyle, Anoushka crafted a narrative of love, transformation, and loss. The album production itself was marked by life's imprints, especially when she lost her father during recording, channeling that grief into her songwriting. Despite this sorrow, the music conveys a sense of hopefulness, as Anoushka balanced her sorrow of losing her father with the joy of caring for her son, Zubin. Amidst intense emotions, "Traces of You" became Anoushka's catharsis during challenging times, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding: love.
