Mikhail Pletnev plays Chopin and Scriabin
Laeiszhalle, Hamburg

For more than four decades, Mikhail Pletnev has enjoyed a reputation as one of the most fascinating pianists of his age, an artist combining impeccable technique with a probing musical mind. Here those qualities are applied to two sets of Preludes. Chopin’s 24 Preludes, inspired in part by his love of Bach, take us through every possible major and minor key creating a kaleidoscope of musical moods and sensations. In turn inspired by Chopin’s set, Scriabin’s more rarely heard Preludes follow the same tonal outline offering a fascinating prospectus of the visionary Russian composer’s early musical language. Together they form an irresistible programme, performed by a true piano master.
