Peltokoski conducts Wagner, Strauss & Bruckner – with Elsa Dreisig

Tarmo Peltokoski and the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse bring the curtain down on the 2024 Granada Festival with a programme featuring the final masterpieces of two great Austro-German composers: Anton Bruckner and Richard Strauss. The concert begins with music by a composer worshipped by both men, Wagner’s rousing Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, before the soprano Elsa Dreisig joins orchestra and conductor for Strauss’s Four Last Songs – his serene farewell to life and love. By contrast, Bruckner set out in his Ninth Symphony to create the ultimate monument to the faith that had sustained him throughout his life, but only the first three movements were complete upon his death in 1896.
