Daniil Trifonov in Barcelona: Tchaikovsky, Barber & Chopin
Palau de la Música
120 Min
Daniil Trifonov takes to the stage of the beautiful Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona to present a programme juxtaposing music by two Romantics, Tchaikovsky and Chopin, with 20th-century American classic, Samuel Barber’s Piano Sonata, premiered by Vladimir Horowitz in 1949. The programme opens and closes with Tchaikovsky: his ambitious and imaginative Piano Sonata in C sharp minor, dating from his student years; and the Suite from his great ballet The Sleeping Beauty, ingeniously arranged for solo piano by Mikhail Pletnev. A selection of Chopin’s beguiling Waltzes completes a programme set to show the full breadth of Trifonov’s breathtaking artistry.
