Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts Bruckner & Strauss – with Angel Blue
Rotterdam Philharmonic
120 Min
Every time Yannik Nézet-Séguin returns to the Rotterdam Philharmonic it's a special occasion. He has been its honorary conductor since 2018 (following a decade as its chief conductor) and the musical relationship is as strong as ever, as this programme of Romantic masterpieces promises to show. It begins with Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs, which bask in the melancholy, autumnal glow of the composer's final years – and which will provide a showcase for the voice and musicianship of superb US soprano Angel Blue. In the second half it's Bruckner’s remarkable Symphony No. 3, a work dedicated to and inspired by Wagner, in which the composer’s mature musical personality starts powerfully to come to the fore.
