Pierre Boulez – Emotion and Analysis

Pierre Boulez described his relationship with the music of composer Béla Bartók as a "sympathy between musicians", and this film follows Boulez through the process of rehearsing the composer's Concerto for Orchestra with the Berliner Philharmoniker in preparation for the orchestra's Europakonzert in Lisbon in 2003. The film includes fascinating interview footage in which Boulez explores, alongside the historical origins of Bartók's late work, his own style of interpretation and his work as conductor and composer.
