Waldbühne 2017: Legends of the Rhine – with Gustavo Dudamel

Gustavo Dudamel returns to the Waldbühne in his third performance with the Berliner Philharmoniker for their annual concert to mark the end of the season. Making up the 2017 programme are the works of Schumann and Wagner, who knew and respected one another, but although they were almost the same age, they were long regarded as representatives of opposing styles. This concert features Schumann's lively "Rhenish" Symphony followed by orchestral excerpts from Wagner’s Ring Cycle – an alluring combination that also makes complete sense: the Rhine is a powerful presence that flows through Wagner's groundbreaking tetralogy while also being the same river that inspired Schumann to write his Third Symphony.
