It was one of the most eagerly awaited events of the musical year in the German capital: 89-year-old living legend of film music John Williams conducting the Berliner Philharmoniker for the first time. The programme covered many of Williams's most famous scores – for "Star Wars", "Superman", "Harry Potter", "Indiana Jones" and more – and showcased music that has embedded itself in the consciousness of generations of film-lovers, all performed with the Berliner Philharmoniker's characteristic virtuosity. Nor did the concert disappoint, unleashing multiple ovations from the audience and superlatives from the critics, while the album of the event made history by topping the German Album Chart – a first both for Williams and the orchestra.
