Abbado conducts Mahler: Symphony No. 3

The final stage of Claudio Abbado's career was largely defined by his work with ensembles he founded himself, such as the world-class Lucerne Festival Orchestra, with which he gave numerous unforgettable concerts, many of them featuring the music of Gustav Mahler, a composer particularly close to Abbado's heart. In this performance from 2007, it's the monumental Third Symphony – an all-embracing pantheistic panorama of nature and life, ending with an irresistible hymn to love. The fourth movement features Swedish singer Anna Larsson in Mahler's haunting setting of verse by Nietzsche.
