In this concert filmed in Salzburg in March 2001, Mitsuko Uchida directs two contrasting Mozart piano concerto from the keyboard. The Piano Concerto No. 13 in C major was among the first that Mozart composed for his Viennese subscription concerts and mixes high spirits with moments of melancholy and reflection – not just in the Andante slow movement, but also in a striking Adagio episode in the finale. The Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor – the key of Don Giovanni and the Requiem – looks forward to Beethoven in its drama and passion. Performing with the Camerata Salzburg, Uchida brings her experience as a celebrated Mozartian to bear in performances that capture all the works' colour and contrast.
