Yanick Nézet-Séguin and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe continue their acclaimed Brahms symphony cycle with the composer's Symphony No. 2. The sunniest of the four, it was completed in Baden-Baden and is performed here with refreshing clarity of vision and energy. After pairing the first symphony with Clara Schumann's piano concerto, the second is here coupled with that by her husband, Robert, who conceived it as a tribute and musical love letter to Clara. The soloist once again is Beatrice Rana, as part of her residency at the 2022 festival, who approaches this ever-popular concerto with the same questing sense of rediscovery that have marked her out as one of the most acclaimed pianists of her generation.
