Rubinstein plays Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 3

Rubinstein plays Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 3

Concert

RCO, Haitink

Production Date: 20/12/1972
37 Min

Artur Rubinstein gave his first public concert at the age of seven, his last at the age of 89. Born in 1887, the Polish-American pianist of Jewish descent mediated between the 19th and 20th centuries, between Eastern Europe, Western Europe, and North America in his unprecedentedly long career, remaining faithful to a universal human spirit through the world wars and political upheavals. Perhaps no other composer embodies this spirit as ideally as Beethoven, whose Third Piano Concerto Rubinstein plays with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under the direction of Bernard Haitink in this performance. The pianist had already made his debut with the Amsterdam orchestra in 1925.
