With a career that ran from 1900 until his retirement in 1976, Polish-American pianist Arthur Rubinstein has, with some justification, been called the pianist of the century: a musician whose performances exuded charm, musicianship and – especially in his later years – wisdom. Recorded just three years before his retirement, this recital sees him bring those qualities to favourite works by Brahms, Schubert and Chopin in ageless performances filmed at the legendary Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
