Staatskapelle Berlin

85 Min

With over 450 years of tradition, the Staatskapelle Berlin is one of the world’s oldest orchestras, and for over 30 years it was inextricably associated with Daniel Barenboim, its music director from 1992 to 2023. Together they surveyed the central orchestral and operatic repertoire to great acclaim, not least the symphonies of Anton Bruckner, with performances of the last six symphonies filmed over one unforgettable week in the Philharmonie Berlin in June 2010. In this concert it’s the turn of the mighty Eighth. For many the work is Bruckner’s greatest achievement – even if its initial rejection triggered one of the most frustrating periods in the composer’s life – here presented in a performance of inexorable power.
