In the summer of 2021, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe came together with Yannick Nézet-Séguin to attempt the greatest journey that any conductor and orchestra can take together – the complete symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven. The project – conceived as a 250th-anniversary salute to Beethoven – had been delayed by the pandemic and there was an unmistakable sense of shared adventure when they finally came together in Baden-Baden to bring the dream to life. Beethoven’s Second and Third (Eroica) symphonies marked a turning point in western music, and these emotionally-charged performances blaze with an irrepressible and unmistakable energy and joy.
