Saraste conducts Sibelius: Symphony No. 4

A great valley, half in sunlight, half in deep shade. That’s one of the images that is said to have fired Sibelius’s imagination as he composed his Fourth Symphony: a work that stares fearlessly into the abyss to find a hard-won, intensely personal kind of hope. For Jukka-Pekka Saraste it’s a masterpiece with "cosmic dimensions", and a natural climax to his Helsinki Sibelius cycle.
